Un éxito total. Así podemos resumir la Conferencia para Profesionales en Redes Inalámbricas (WLPC por sus siglas en inglés) realizada el pasado 5 al 9 de noviembre en la ciudad de México. En esta conferencia, un increíble grupo de profesionales de Brasil, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, España, Estados Unidos, México, Perú y República Dominicana se reunieron para compartir sus conocimientos y experiencias en el diseño, instalación y resolución de problemas de redes inalámbricas, así como temas de gran interés para la comunidad Wi-Fi de habla hispana.

Siguiendo el formato de las ediciones de la WLPC en Estados Unidos y Europa, algunos de los asistentes a la conferencia pudieron participar de dos boot camps a escoger: CWNA, impartido por Jesús Bred, y Stack IoT LoRa con José Hernández, quien muy gentilmente viajó desde España para ofrecernos la oportunidad de aprender nuevas tecnologías y tendencias sobre el Internet de las Cosas. Estos boot camps tuvieron lugar del 5 al 7 de noviembre.

El evento principal se llevó a cabo los días 8 y 9 de noviembre, durante los cuales disfrutamos de excelentes presentaciones por parte los mismos asistentes a la conferencia. Las más de 35 presentaciones abarcaron temas de actualidad e interés para la comunidad Wi-Fi, como por ejemplo Wi-Fi 6E, Zero Trust, WIPS, QoS, IoT, redes LTE privadas, RADSEC, diseño de redes outdoor, gestión de redes en la nube, y mucho más.

Además, nuestro equipo de trabajo, junto con Ferney Muñoz, tuvo el placer de ofrecer un deep dive de 6 horas sobre troubleshooting Wi-Fi, Zigbee & BLE, mientras que Eliot Eggers tuvo a cargo un deep dive, también de 6 horas, sobre hacking de redes Wi-Fi. En particular, la experiencia que vivimos durante la clase de troubleshooting fue fantástica. Nos sentimos muy contentos por la retroalimentación recibida y saber que muchos hacen uso de nuestras herramientas en su día a día como profesionales en redes inalámbricas.

Pero no todo fue hablar o escuchar de redes inalámbricas. Un aspecto muy importante, y que hace de WLPC una de las pocas conferencias de su estilo, es poder conocer más sobre la persona detrás de la credencial. En una época donde muchos de nosotros solamente hemos interactuado a través de una red social o por una llamada de Zoom, tener la oportunidad sentarse a conversar, frente a frente, mientras se disfruta de una deliciosa comida, es algo muy refrescante, y más cuando sucede en la linda ciudad de México.

Para nosotros, WLPC México 2022 ha sido de las mejores conferencias a las que hemos asistido, no únicamente por el contenido, sino también por el grupo de asistentes de gran nivel profesional y calidez inigualable. Sin embargo, este gran evento no hubiera sido posible sin la increíble labor de Ferney Muñoz, Matthew Casteel, Juan Carlos Luna, y el resto de personas que dedicaron su tiempo y esfuerzo para que la conferencia fuera todo un éxito.

Estamos muy agradecidos de haber asistido a este gran evento. Esperamos poder encontrarnos nuevamente con viejas y nuevas amistades en la siguiente WLPC en español, ya sea en México o en cualquier otro país de nuestra hermosa Latinoamérica.

A complete success. With these words, we can summarize the Wireless LAN Professionals Conference (WLPC) held last November 5 to 9 in Mexico City. During these days, an incredible group of professionals from Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Spain, the United States, Mexico, Peru, and the Dominican Republic came together to share their knowledge and experience in network design, installation, troubleshooting, and other topics of great interest to the Spanish-speaking Wi-Fi community.

Following the format of the WLPC editions in the United States and Europe, some of the conference attendees were able to participate in two boot camps to choose from: CWNA, taught by Jesús Bred, and Stack IoT LoRa with José Hernández, who very kindly traveled from Spain to offer us the opportunity to learn new technologies and trends about the Internet of Things. These boot camps took place from November 5 to 7.

The main event took place on the 8th and 9th of November, during which we enjoyed excellent presentations by the conference attendees. The more than 35 presentations discussed current topics of interest to the Wi-Fi community, such as Wi-Fi 6E, Zero Trust, WIPS, QoS, IoT, private LTE networks, RADSEC, outdoor network design, network management in the cloud, and much more.

In addition, our team and Ferney Muñoz offered a 6-hour deep dive on troubleshooting Wi-Fi, Zigbee & BLE, while Eliot Eggers was in charge of a 6-hour deep dive on hacking Wi-Fi networks. In particular, the experience we had during the troubleshooting class was fantastic. We are delighted with the feedback received and to know that many use our tools in their daily lives as professionals in wireless networks.

But it wasn’t all talking or hearing about wireless networks. An essential aspect that makes WLPC one of the few conferences of its kind is being able to learn more about the person behind the badge. At a time when many of us have only interacted through a social network or a Zoom call, having the opportunity to sit down and talk face-to-face while enjoying a delicious meal is something very refreshing, and even more so when it all takes place in the beautiful city of Mexico.

For us, WLPC Mexico 2022 has been one of the best conferences we have attended, not only because of the content but also because of the group of highly professional attendees and unparalleled warmth. However, this great event would not have been possible without the incredible work of Ferney Muñoz, Matthew Casteel, Juan Carlos Luna, and the rest of the people who dedicated their time and effort to make the conference a success.

We are very grateful to have attended this great event. We look forward to meeting old and new friends again at the next WLPC in Spanish, whether in Mexico or any other country in our beautiful Latin America.
